Sebastian Stan

Both of Sebastian Stan's 2024 films were reviewed in Sight and Sound, and both writers built their verdict on his face. Jessica Kiang writes that in Aaron Schimberg's A Different Man he plays a man with facial tumours under heavy prosthetics, and that when the experimental treatment takes hold the character's destination is the actor's own face: overnight, in her phrase, Edward looks like Sebastian Stan. Kiang also names what he does with it, playing a man who has never quite believed he deserved either of his faces with a beautiful and merciless unease. Beatrice Loayza found Ali Abbasi's The Apprentice profoundly forgettable and offered only one concession, in the same register: the film's likening of a young Donald Trump to Robert Redford is giggle-inducing, though she grants that Stan holds his own in the looker department. Film Independent noted that performance with a lead nomination at the 2025 ceremony.
