Tye Sheridan

Tye Sheridan plays Wade, a young man living in the collapsed world of 2045, in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One. Pamela Hutchinson's verdict on that character comes in two steps: first an acquittal, Wade is no misogynist dude-bro, and then a conviction on another axis, a yawning blank. Her measure is taken from inside the cast, the blank showing up the more beside Olivia Cooke's brave and rebellious Samantha. What the record rests on, then, is not an assessment of Sheridan's acting but how the protagonist he plays is judged in that text, and how the judgement is built by a comparison within the film.
