Kevin Reynolds
6 films · 1 series
Kevin Reynolds's first feature came out of a student film. The AFI's account is that while he was a student at the University of Southern California his agent sent his short film Proof to Amblin Entertainment in 1981, and that when Steven Spielberg saw it he suggested Reynolds make a feature-length version of the same work with Amblin's backing. The Amblin production was first planned as an independent film at a million dollars, and when Warner Bros. came in as a partner the budget rose to seven million. Having seen the first cut of Fandango he said himself that there were problems in the screenplay, and Spielberg, the executive producer uncredited on screen, allowed four days of reshoots. Six years later he directed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and the same catalogue records that Reynolds, who had worked with Kevin Costner on Fandango, was paid under two million dollars.
