Nicolas Winding Refn

Nicolas Winding Refn was born in Denmark and grew up in New York. By Wally Hammond's piece his films, beginning with Pusher, the one that made his name, have gone at male swagger and male violence with considerable appetite and openness; Hammond frames the generalisation carefully, noting in a parenthesis that to be quite certain he would have to see a Miss Marple television film Refn made in 2007. On Drive he delivers a verdict with two sides to it: this may be the best film he has made to date, and strangely his most anonymous.
