What 1/2 Man Is About

The film is about the German group Einstürzende Neubauten. They come out of underground music. It was shot during their Japanese tour of 1985. The director is Gakuryu Ishii. He was known at the time as Sogo Ishii. This is not a straight concert film. A separate setting was built for the band. It stands in the ruins of an old ironworks. The plant was due for demolition. What was staged there was choreographed in advance. That footage was worked into the body of the film, with short stage sequences between. Metal and noise make the sound of the group, and the ruin sits inside the music rather than behind it. Blixa Bargeld and Alexander Hacke appear in the fifty eight minute film, a Japanese production finished in 1986.
