2gether: The Movie

Weerachit Thongjila's 2021 Thai film is the cinema version of the series of the same name. Tine, who asks the most popular student on campus to be his fake boyfriend in order to escape Sarawat's attention, ends up, as the template requires, with real feelings. The film re-edits episodes of the series and fills parts of it with new footage; it is not an independent production but a compilation prepared for fans. Watched knowing that, it is fine; watched without knowing, the story feels like it jumps. It is among the best-known examples from the period when Thailand's boys love series drew worldwide attention, and it applies the conventions of the genre faithfully. Who it's for: viewers who follow Thai boys love series and fans of the show. Who it's not for: anyone unfamiliar with the series, or wanting a story built to stand alone.
