8 A.M. Metro

Raj Rachakonda's 2023 Indian film follows two strangers who meet on the Hyderabad metro. Iravati has panic attacks and cannot travel alone; Preetam begins accompanying her and the journeys turn into a continuous conversation. Poetry is at the centre. The bond between them is built through shared reading, and the narrative uses Urdu and Hindi poetry directly. That is what pulls the relationship away from a romantic template. Saiyami Kher and Gulshan Devaiah lead. The metro stations and the train interior are almost the only setting; the city stays outside. The narrative becomes over-explanatory towards the end and loses the calm of its opening. Who it's for: those who like quiet Indian drama and literature-based narrative. Who it's not for: viewers waiting for event; the film consists almost entirely of two people talking.
