80 Million

December 1981, Wrocław. Martial law is about to be declared and it is clear the Solidarity union's accounts will be frozen. A small group of young union activists decide to withdraw eighty million złoty from the bank. The state security service is on their trail. Hiding the money will turn out to be harder than taking it out. Waldemar Krzystek's Polish film starts from a real event: on 3 December 1981, Solidarity members in Lower Silesia withdrew the union's money from the bank and left it in the keeping of the Wrocław diocese. The film was Poland's Oscar entry that year. The telling gives the episode the pace of a heist picture but shows both sides as people.
