What A Distant Neighborhood Is About
Thomas is in his fifties and draws comics. On a journey he ends up by chance in the town where he grew up. Visiting the family grave he collapses, and when he opens his eyes he is forty years earlier, in the body of his fourteen-year-old self. His mother is alive and his father has not left yet. He will have to live those years again and, at the same time, try to work out why his father walked out. Sam Garbarski adapted the film from Jiro Taniguchi's manga, moving the story from Japan to France. Pascal Greggory and Léo Legrand play the same man at two ages. Whether living the past again is enough to change it stays an open question right to the end.
