What A Family Tour Is About
Yang Shu, a director who had to leave her country over a film she made and has settled in Hong Kong, wants to meet her mother, who is about to undergo a serious operation; but the mother cannot leave the mainland and she cannot go back. The solution is found in Taiwan: Yang is invited to a film festival, and her mother will arrive at the same hotel with a tour group. The two stay in the same hotel and go on the same excursions, but move separately so as to show that they are not related. Ying Liang’s hundred and seven minute film came out of the director’s own exile; Gong Zhe and Nai An appear.
