A Good Child

Wang Guoshen's 2025 film follows Jia Hao, who performs in drag. When his mother is diagnosed with dementia he returns home. She does not know what work he does, and as her memory fades the lie becomes sustainable. The film neither approves nor condemns the deception; the narrative shows the carer's exhaustion together with the cost of concealment. Richie Koh and Hong Huifang lead. The stage sections are colourful and the scenes at home kept in low light. The tone is sad. Who it's for: viewers of Singaporean cinema and family-centred queer narratives. Who it's not for: viewers for whom dementia and caregiving would be difficult.
