What Great Freedom Is About
In postwar Germany the arrival of the Allies does not mean freedom for everyone. Hans Hoffmann is imprisoned again and again under Paragraph 175, which criminalises homosexuality, and across the decades the two most constant things in his life become those sentences and Viktor, the convicted murderer he shares a cell with. Sebastian Meise interleaves several decades and locates love in the least likely place available, a prison cell. Franz Rogowski plays Hans and Georg Friedrich plays Viktor.
