A Lot Like Love

Nigel Cole breaks the story into chapters instead of one timeline; each lands on a turning point in the two lives. It jumps from 7 years back to 3, then 2, then the present, skipping the years between and showing only their results. Oliver’s brother Graham is deaf and is played by the deaf actor Tyrone Giordano. The business Oliver is trying to build is an online diaper service, with Kal Penn as his partner Jeeter. Meghan Markle plays Natalie, the passenger seated beside him on the plane. The album Butch Walker put together opens on Semi-Charmed Life, Walkin’ on the Sun and Save Tonight, all of them late 1990s records, so the music dates the first chapter for you. Filming covered New York and Los Angeles plus the Antelope Valley. It opened on 2,502 screens, took 7.6 million dollars in its first weekend for fourth place, and reached 42.9 million worldwide on a 30 million budget. Roger Ebert gave it 1 star and later put it on his most hated list. A good fit if you want the skipped years left for you to fill in, every meeting its own chapter. Not for anyone expecting the two to be kept apart by their own decisions; almost every time it is timing that does it.
