What A Man in Our House Is About
Ibrahim Hamdi assassinates a prime minister who collaborates with colonial rule; he is caught, escapes and takes shelter in the house of a fellow student. The household are frightened at first, then agree to hide him, and the whole family stands behind that decision. The young man turns towards Samia, the daughter of the house, while Nawal, the youngest girl, becomes the link between him and his comrades; when the police catch the scent, the house turns into an interrogation. Ibrahim refuses to leave the country and goes back to the struggle. Omar Sharif takes the lead in Henry Barakat’s hundred and fifty three minute Egyptian film, completed in 1961, in the years when the country was settling accounts with its colonial past.
