Safar Barlek

The events take place in Lebanon around 1914. The country is under Ottoman rule in those years. The authorities force men to labour without pay. Abdou sets out to fetch an engagement ring for Adla. He is seized along the way together with others. They are taken off to cut timber. At the same time wheat is kept out of certain villages. The aim is to wear down the resistance that Abou Ahmed leads. Adla travels to the place where Abdou is said to be held. There she comes upon Abou Ahmed. With the villagers she works to get the wheat to the people. When the task is done they are all wanted. Abou Ahmed and the freed Abdou have to flee. As they go they promise to return and keep up the fight. The film is built as a drama with music. Fairuz and Ihsan Sadek appear in the one hundred fifteen minute film, a Lebanese production Henry Barakat finished in 1967.
