What A Piece of the Action Is About
Two accomplished thieves working in Chicago, Manny Durrell and Dave Anderson, fall into the hands of the retired detective Joshua Burke. Burke has never managed to arrest them but knows enough about their past to use it as leverage: either they work with delinquent kids at a youth centre or they go to prison. The two begin unwillingly, then get genuinely involved, and come up against the contradiction between what they are trying to teach and how they have lived. Sidney Poitier directed and played Manny; Bill Cosby plays Dave and James Earl Jones plays Burke. It was the third film Poitier and Cosby made together in a row, after Uptown Saturday Night and Let’s Do It Again. It was shot in Chicago.
