What A Very English Murder Is About
Family and friends gathered for Christmas at Warbeck Hall, an English country house, are cut off by snow. The owner, an old lord who has run through his money and is dying, has called everyone together thinking this will be his last Christmas. Among the guests are the lord’s difficult son, a visiting Czech historian, a faithful butler and the butler’s ambitious daughter. When the murders begin, neither the manner of them nor the way they are solved resembles the usual detective story, and the source of the crime turns out to lie in the politics of this house. Samson Samsonov’s hundred and sixty five minute Soviet production was adapted from Cyril Hare’s novel; Aleksey Batalov appears.
