Offered for Singles

Vera, a textile worker, lives in a women’s hostel and spends her free time trying to get her friends married. She takes the work seriously: she places newspaper advertisements, sends word all over the Soviet Union and picks the candidates with care. She herself is alone and is forever going to other people’s weddings. A new warden, Viktor Petrovich, is posted to the hostel and at first sets about breaking up the established arrangement and closing Vera’s marriage bureau. Then he begins to change his mind. The film shows Soviet daily life in the eighties, the hostel corridors and the walks home from work, from inside the comedy. Natalya Gundareva plays the lead in Samson Samsonov’s eighty nine minute Soviet film, completed in 1983.
