What Above the World Is About
Adrian Goiginger’s 2022 Austrian film adapts a play by Felix Mitterer and draws on a real life. Elias is the son of the richest farmer in the Zillertal in Tyrol, an excellent student, and the man expected to take over the farm. The harder he tries to fill the role assigned to him, the more clearly he understands that he wants a completely different life. When the inheritance is due he leaves the valley, the money and the expectations behind and goes to live above the tree line in total solitude. The film treats that choice as neither illness nor heroism. Jakob Mader plays the young Elias and Johannes Krisch the older one.
