Above Us Only Sky

Martha has been with Paul for years and believes their life together is solid. One day two policemen come to the door and Martha learns there are things about the man she lives with that she did not know. The life Paul described is not real. From then on she has to carry both her own life and the memory of a person she never knew. Jan Schomburg's German film is his first feature. Sandra Hüller takes the lead and the film runs almost entirely on her face. The telling does not explain Paul; it refuses to explain him. What it is about is what the one left behind will do. The tone is calm and held back; there is no big scene, no weeping, only somebody who has to go on.
