In Medellín at the start of the nineties, Santiago, who works in construction, is in debt and cannot find the money to keep his business going. His childhood friend Gerardo opens the way to quick money from the cocaine trade; Santiago goes in telling himself it is only once, and then cannot get out. How the cartel draws ordinary people in, how quickly the money comes and how ordinary the violence becomes are shown step by step. The film does not make the drug world attractive; it tells a fall whose end is known from the start. Víctor Gaviria’s hundred and eight minute Colombian film was shot with non-professional actors in real locations.
