What The Rose Seller Is About
Medellín on Christmas night. Mónica, thirteen, sells roses in the street. She has built a world of her own: friends, a boyfriend, her pride, and she asks nobody for anything. But the street pulls her further down night by night: glue, hunger, violence and nowhere to go. Gaviria built the film out of Andersen's Little Match Girl and cast children who actually lived on those streets. Several of them were killed in the years after filming. It is hard and does not soften anything.
