Adú

The film runs three strands side by side. In Cameroon, six year old Adú and his sister try to reach Europe by hiding in the cargo hold of an aircraft. In the same country an environmental activist working against ivory poaching cannot repair things with the daughter who has arrived from Spain. Thousands of kilometres north, in Melilla, a group of civil guards prepares to meet the crowd climbing the fence. Salvador Calvo does not tie the strands together directly; he looks at different ends of one system. The strongest section is the children's journey, played by non-professionals. It took thirteen Goya nominations and won four, including best director. Who it is for: viewers who want migration approached from several directions at once. Who it is not for: anyone who struggles to watch violence done to children.
