Aldeia da Roupa Branca

Gracinda is a young laundress. She keeps the work going with Uncle Jacinto. But things are not going well. What comes in does not cover a living. Gracinda makes a decision. She means to go to the city. Her cousin Chico lives there. Gracinda is in love with him. What she wants is to bring him back to the village. If Chico returns he can help with the business. The account is built on that effort to persuade him. The film sets village life against the city. The river where the washing is done is the fixed place of the account. Rivalry in the village is among the events too. The work was shot in black and white and is a musical comedy. Beatriz Costa and José Amaro take the leads in Chianca de Garcia’s Portuguese film of 1939.
