Ander

In the Basque countryside Ander, past forty, leads a monotonous life working the farm and a job at the local bicycle factory, living with his sister and his old mother. When he breaks his leg the family, against his mother’s wishes, takes on Jose, a Peruvian immigrant, to do the work. The balance of the house shifts; the old woman will not speak to the newcomer, while Ander and his sister get used to him. The closeness that grows between the two men requires Ander to say what he has not said even to himself. The film treats this not as a secret or a scandal but as something real inside rural life. Josean Bengoetxea and Christian Esquivel appear in Roberto Caston’s hundred and thirty five minute film, completed in 2009.
