Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap

Marius Talampas's 2018 Filipino film follows a group of friends who want to be known as the town's best thieves. None of them knows the trade, and planning the first big job turns out harder than pulling it off. The humour lies in the preparation. The crew cannot find a vehicle, they draw plans and argue; the narrative stretches that section to make its comedy and never quite gets the robbery started. The budget is low and the cast largely drawn from the theatre. The narrative hardens unexpectedly in its second half and moves outside the comic form; the close offers no comfort. Who it's for: those who like Filipino independent comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a consistent tone; the film changes genre halfway through.
