What Another Day in Paradise Is About

Bobbie, a young thief, falls in with Mel, an experienced criminal, and an odd four-person family forms: two kids, a man and a woman, driving from state to state robbing pharmacies. Larry Clark builds it not as a crime narrative but as a story of intimacy organised around drugs and dependence, with violence arriving suddenly and never as planned. James Woods plays Mel as protective and dangerous at once, with Melanie Griffith as the woman beside him. Clark's usual subject is here too: adults pulling young people into their lives and then losing them. No motel along the way is any good. Who it is for: viewers who like nineties American independent crime films. Who it is not for: anyone uncomfortable with drug use shown in detail.
