Another Mother's Son

The island of Jersey was under German occupation in the Second World War. Louisa Gould is a widowed shopkeeper there. One of the Soviet prisoners brought to the island as forced labour escapes and comes to her door. Louisa takes him into her house, hides him, and looks after him for two years as though he were her son. The penalty for that is death and she knows it. In the end a neighbour informs on her. The story is real. From 1942 to 1944 Louisa Gould hid an escaped Soviet worker called Feodor Buriy, was denounced by neighbours, was tried and sent to the Ravensbrück camp. She was killed there in February 1945. In 2010 she was named a British Hero of the Holocaust. In the film, directed by Christopher Menaul, Jenny Seagrove plays Louisa. Ninety-eight minutes. The title comes from the idea that she did this for another mother's son.
