Anweshippin Kandethum

The early nineties, Kottayam. A young woman is murdered and everyone in the town has a theory. Anand Narayan is a newly posted police officer; he takes the file and the pressure starts at once. His superiors want a quick result, the papers are writing, the town offers a name. Anand does not take the name and looks for evidence. The case closes. Years later another killing brings the same question back and the price of the decision made in the first file comes out. Darwin Kuriakose directs; Jinu V. Abraham wrote the screenplay. Tovino Thomas, Vineeth Thattil David, Siddique and Pramod Veliyanad are in the cast. The music is by Santhosh Narayanan. It is an Indian production in Malayalam. The film opened on 9 February 2024; it was made for around eight crore rupees and took about forty crore. The narrative gives two separate investigations in two parts and ties them together. The matter it treats is the hasty decision; the film shows step by step how easy a wrong arrest is. The narrative keeps the conditions of nineties police work; no telephones, no database, everything done on foot. The film builds no police heroism and describes the pressure inside the institution too. Tovino Thomas plays the character quietly and without display. The narrative gives room to the victims' families and does not push them into the background. The ending gives the right answer late and says that it cost something. Its limit is pace; the narrative is slow, dense with detail, and anyone expecting action will be disappointed. Who it is for: viewers who like investigative films and Malayalam cinema. Who it is not for: it is slow, detailed, and the ending cool headed.
