A town in Minas Gerais, beside an old aluminium plant. André is a teenager still at school. Cristiano, who works at the plant, has an accident and is taken to hospital. André is sent to the man's house to fetch clothes and papers. There he finds a notebook. In it Cristiano has written down his years: getting out of prison, picking oranges, textile work, building sites, the road, the back of a lorry, a woman, a friend, the road again. From there the film goes on in Cristiano's voice. Affonso Uchoa and João Dumans direct the Brazilian film; ninety-eight minutes, with Aristides de Sousa as Cristiano. It builds an account of labour out of a worker's own sentences, describing not events but how a life spent moving from job to job actually feels.
