What Aradhana Is About
Vandana and Arun marry in secret, and when Arun is killed in an air crash nobody recognises the marriage. She has to give her child up for adoption and then takes work as his nanny in order to stay near him. Shakti Samanta directed, and the story was changed after shooting had begun so that Rajesh Khanna could play a double role, both Arun and his son Suraj. It opened in November 1969 and made Khanna a star overnight. Sharmila Tagore gave one of the performances of her career and won the Filmfare award for best actress, while the film took best film. S. D. Burman wrote the music and Kishore Kumar sang it.
