What As the Moon Is About
Normandy, 1976. Roger Pouplard, in his forties, has left his wife and daughter to live with the well-off Nadia; he works in her butcher’s shop and is not at ease with any of it. The solution that occurs to him is to bring his wife and his mistress together at his parents’ table. The meal does not go as hoped, the two women come to blows, Nadia walks out, and to calm her Roger promises a trip to Deauville. Joël Séria builds the film around a man wrestling with his own jealousy and his own indecision, and finds the comedy in a merciless place. Jean-Pierre Marielle plays Roger and Sophie Daumier plays Nadia, with Dominique Lavanant and Anna Gaylor in the cast. The record gives his trade as heating engineer where sources say refrigeration repair.
