Atlantis

Friedrich von Kammacher, a biologist crushed under personal and professional troubles, decides to travel abroad to win back his appetite for living. On his adventurous journey he meets two very different women, and one of them becomes the key to his fate. The film was adapted from a book and builds its events along a line running from Berlin to New York. The shipwreck that occurs midway through the journey is the account’s breaking point. It does not present the man’s flight as a cure; it shows that wherever he goes he carries the same condition with him. For a film made in 1913 it is unusually long and unusually large in scale. Olaf Fonss and Ida Orloff appear in August Blom’s hundred and seventeen minute Danish film, completed in 1913.
