Brother in Love 2

Aykut and Gülşah are getting married and the preparations are under way. A few days before the wedding, Talat, the family's former brother in law, turns up. He left years ago and his return suits nobody; every old account in the house is reopened and the preparations turn into chaos. Onur Bilgetay directs. Cem Gelinoğlu plays Aykut and Melis Babadağ plays Gülşah, with Hakan Yılmaz, Müfit Kayacan, Lale Başar, Selen Domaç, Nezaket Erden and Güler Ökten. It runs a hundred and fifteen minutes. It continues Aykut Enişte of 2019 and was made with the same cast. The shape is Turkish family comedy: a crowded house, pressure from relatives, misunderstandings and a wedding. The narrative never leaves it. The humour comes from character types and from talk; Cem Gelinoğlu is at the centre and the comedy depends largely on his timing. It did well commercially, taking over 4.6 million lira in its opening weekend and reaching 22.7 million lira and more than 930 thousand admissions in total. The known problem of sequels is here: the setup of the first film is repeated and the new character is not enough to carry the narrative. Who it is for: viewers who like Turkish family comedy and who liked the first film. Who it is not for: the jokes repeat, the plot is thin, and the women have limited function.
