Brother in Love

Aykut, who owns a shop, is preparing to marry his girlfriend Nurhan. A week before the wedding the shop is burgled and all his savings are gone. Gulsah, who comes from the insurance company to assess the damage, asks him for a small favour, and that favour changes everyone's lives. Onur Bilgetay directed, from a screenplay by Cem Gelinoglu and Giray Altinok. Cem Gelinoglu plays Aykut, Melis Babadag plays Nurhan, Ege Kokenli plays Gulsah, with Mufit Kayacan in the cast. It opened on 24 May 2019 and drew more than 567,000 admissions. The structure is classic misunderstanding comedy: a lie growing and everyone believing a different truth. Gelinoglu, writing and starring, builds the film around his own comic language; the pace is fast and the lines short. The family interfering and the wedding preparations are familiar material in Turkish comedy, and the film does not try to disturb it. A sequel followed. Who it is for: viewers who like Turkish box office comedy and Cem Gelinoglu's humour. Who it is not for: anyone after an original plot; the film runs the template on purpose.
