Baazaar

An ambitious young man comes to Mumbai from the provinces wanting to work for the man at the top of the stock market. Shakun Kothari is an investor whose name is spoken with fear on the floor and who sets his own rules, and he gives the newcomer a chance. The young man rises fast; the work involves leaked information, false accounts and pressure. It takes him a while to notice what he is losing as he wins. Gauravv K. Chawla's film moves into territory Indian cinema has not covered often: the capital markets and the moral accounting that goes on inside them. Saif Ali Khan plays a boss with charisma who cannot be approached; Rohan Vinod Mehra and Radhika Apte are opposite him. The film keeps swinging between punishing ambition and glorifying it, and saves its real question for the end.
