Vasilis Halakatevakis What Balkanisateur Is About
Two friends from a small Greek town set out for Bulgaria in the belief that they can make money from the difference in exchange rates. The plan is simple, the road is not: borders, lost money, people they do not know and their own mistrust of each other come into play in turn, and the business stretches as far as Switzerland. As the dream of easy money shrinks a little at every step, the friendship between the two men is tested too. Sotiris Goritsas’s ninety seven minute Greek film was adapted from a novel and tells the new economy that appeared in the Balkans of the 1990s, when the borders opened, in the shape of a road movie. Stelios Mainas and Gerasimos Skiadaresis appear; it was completed in 1997.
