Baltic Tribes

The work is about the pre-Christian culture of the Baltic in the thirteenth century. The account uses a form that joins documentary and fiction. Lars, a Danish spy, enters the tribal lands of the Baltic peoples. There he takes part in religious rites, sees raids, and goes inside the celebrations of the summer solstice. For a time he is held as a slave by the Couronians. He also joins in fighting against the crusaders. The film tries to show how the last pagan peoples of Europe lived. Telling a period through reenactment is the method of the account. The hundred minute film by Raitis Ābele and Lauris Ābele, a joint Latvian and Polish production, was completed in 2018.
