What Bar Esperanza Is About
In Rio de Janeiro, a bar in Ipanema is about to close; a building is going up in its place. Its regulars are intellectuals, artists and people of the night, and they come together to stop the demolition. Among them are Ana, an actress playing a hated character in a television serial, and her husband Zeca, a playwright who quits television because he can no longer bear the arrangement imposed on him. The film tells the loss of a place as the loss of a life that was built inside it. Marilia Pera appears in Hugo Carvana’s hundred and nineteen minute Brazilian film, completed in 1983.
