What Batman: The Long Halloween Deluxe Edition Is About
Chris Palmer's 2022 animation is the combined version of a Batman adaptation released in two parts. Someone in Gotham is killing on a holiday every month and all the victims are connected to the Falcone crime family. Batman, the district attorney Harvey Dent and commissioner Gordon work together to find the killer while the city's organised crime order collapses and costumed criminals take its place. The story follows the familiar plot of the comic and keeps Dent's transformation at the centre. Because this version joins the two films the pacing is more even and some scenes are rearranged; parts are also harder, aimed at an adult audience. The visual design follows a softer line than the comic's, which was much discussed. Who it's for: viewers who like Batman animation and crime mystery. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a visual language faithful to the comic.
