Be with You

Be with You (original title Seninle Olmak), directed by Nobuhiro Doi and adapted from Takuji Ichikawa's novel of the same name, had its world premiere at the 17th Tokyo International Film Festival on October 27, 2004, opening widely three days later. The film, about a deceased woman who returns to her husband and son without remembering them and must rebuild their bond, grossed 46.6 million dollars. Lead actress Yuko Takeuchi won Best Actress at the Japan Academy Prize for the role. The story was adapted into a ten episode Japanese TV series in 2005 and a South Korean film remake starring So Ji-sub and Son Ye-jin in 2018. Who it's for: anyone curious about a novel adaptation that spawned both a Japanese TV series and a South Korean film remake, and won its lead actress her country's top acting award. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a grounded family drama free of supernatural elements, since the film centers on the return of a memory-loss ghost.
