What Beau Geste Is About

The brothers Beau, John and Digby Geste join the Foreign Legion and come under the command of the brutal Sergeant Markoff. Beau and John are posted to Fort Zinderneuf, where Markoff sets about breaking them, knowing there is a dark family secret and a valuable jewel that one of them carries. As the tension rises an attack comes against the fort and every score between them has to be put aside. The film speaks from inside the colonial adventure mould and shows the other side only as an attacking crowd; that is what stands out most today. Ronald Colman plays the lead in Herbert Brenon’s hundred and twenty nine minute silent film, completed in 1926.
