What Bedtime Story Is About
Two confidence men working the same prey on the French Riviera. Lawrence Jameson is the perfect gentleman: he passes himself off as a prince in exile and collects money for his counter-revolution from wealthy women. Freddy Benson is a coarse, small-time operator in a corporal's uniform. Once Freddy sees how the senior man works, he starts copying him. Unable to share the territory, they settle it with a bet: whoever first gets money out of Janet Walker stays, and the other leaves. Ralph Levy's comedy puts Brando opposite David Niven, in one of Marlon Brando's few comic parts. It was remade in 1988 as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
