Bento Harassment

Kaori is raising two daughters on her own. Her younger daughter Futaba is in a rebellious phase and has stopped speaking to her mother altogether. Kaori finds her own way through: she turns the bento box she makes every day into a message board. The words written on the food, the faces drawn on it and the designs that grow steadily more ambitious are at once an attempt at communication and a mild revenge. Renpei Tsukamoto adapted the essay Kyo mo Iyagarase Bento, published under the name Ttkk, and shot much of it on the island of Hachijojima. Ryoko Shinohara plays Kaori and Kyoko Yoshine plays Futaba. It tells a mother-and-daughter relationship without staging big scenes, through a packed-lunch habit that runs across the high school years.
