Bethlehem

At the centre of this film is the bond between Razi, an Israeli intelligence officer, and Sanfur, his Palestinian informant. Razi recruited the boy at fifteen and something close to a father's relationship grew between them. Sanfur is seventeen now, his older brother is a senior figure in an armed faction, and he has to carry Razi's demands and his loyalty to his family at once, lying to both. Yuval Adler wrote the screenplay with the Palestinian journalist Ali Waked, out of years of research. Both sides are told from inside; nobody here is a hero and nobody carries the blame alone. It won the top prize in Giornate degli Autori at Venice in 2013 and was sent forward as Israel's Oscar submission.
