Between Pain and Amen

Tase is a young composer and double bass player. After studying in Vienna he returns to Romania. He becomes engaged and thinks of building a life. Soon afterwards the political police take him in. Where he is taken is Pitești prison. A programme is being run there. It is called re-education. Prisoners are tortured. The aim is not only to inflict pain. Those tortured are to be turned into torturers themselves. The man in charge of it is an officer named Ciumău. Tase tries to stay standing in that place. The events behind the film are real. It was the first Romanian feature about Pitești. Constantin Cotimanis and Cezara Dafinescu appear in the hundred and twenty five minute film, a Romanian production Toma Enache finished in 2019.
