What Between Us Is About
Patricia Martínez de Velasco’s first feature is a Mexican comedy that fits inside a single day. Rodolfo Guerra, an architect, wakes up and decides not to go to work; he is tired of the way his wife treats him and tired of the routine that produced it. With the day suddenly empty, he starts noticing how much of a stranger he has become in his own house, and how little he knows about the lives of his three daughters. He is aware he may lose his job and stays home anyway. Jesús Ochoa and Carmen Beato carry it without turning the marriage into a villain, and the director has said the idea came from her own childhood, when her parents came close to divorcing.
