Bhoot Police

Pavan Kirpalani's 2021 Indian film follows two brothers who make a living as fake exorcists. Vibhooti does it purely for money; Chiraunji believes what their father told them. A case at a remote tea estate forces both to question what they believe. The film joins horror to comedy with the weight on comedy; there are few genuine scares and their effect is limited. The relationship between the brothers, played by Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor, is its best quality and the dialogue is well written. Its weakness is that the story cannot decide what to do in its final section and the supernatural explanation is left half-finished. The local motifs of belief are used well. Who it's for: viewers who like Indian horror comedy and light genre films. Who it's not for: anyone wanting real horror, or looking for narrative consistency.
