Big Hero 6

The emotional engine sits inside one constraint: Baymax is a healthcare robot and cannot be angry. That is why the revenge section works. To make the robot do what he wants, Hiro has to pull out the software that stops it, so a child deliberately turns his own carer into a weapon. Family animation rarely goes there, and it is the hardest moment in the film. The second concrete point is the cast. The poster shows six heroes, but this is really a duet between a boy and a robot; the other four friends arrive late and get roughly one trait each. If you want ensemble dynamics, they are not here. The familiar suit up montage lands close to the hour mark, so the first half is a grief story. The loss happens early and is never reversed, worth weighing before watching with young children. Baymax was not invented out of nothing. The team visited the robotics institute at Carnegie Mellon and saw an inflatable vinyl robot arm being developed for healthcare; the body of the character came from that. Don Hall had found the obscure comic while going through a Marvel database. San Fransokyo was built from real San Francisco property records, some 83,000 buildings and 100,000 vehicles. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
