Bitter Gold

The events take place in northern Chile. A father and his teenage daughter work a mine. What they work is a small artisanal claim. One day they find a vein. The vein is gold and it is off the books. Neither of them tells anyone. The secret does not hold for long. Another miner learns of it. He forces his way into the mine. The struggle that follows ends in a death. The father is gravely injured. There is a body that has to be hidden. The girl has to take her father’s place. A group of miners stands against her. She has her own inexperience to deal with as well. Katalina Sánchez and Francisco Melo appear in the eighty three minute film, a Chilean, Mexican, German and Uruguayan co-production Juan Francisco Olea finished in 2025.
